Family Activities During COVID-19
Whitefield Academy families are creative and resourceful when it comes to our new, if temporary, COVID-19 lifestyle.
What are some ideas for spending constructive and fun time now that our students can’t play with neighborhood kids or see their friends in school?
One mom shared that her daughters wrote notes to their neighbors, then got on their bikes and delivered those notes to the mailboxes at the end of the driveways.
One family created a cinder block and brick-rimmed fire pit. Others have enjoyed using the ones already established in their backyards.
There are an assortment of board games to discover or rediscover with Settlers of Catan, Code Names, Root, Dutch Blitz and good old Scrabble and Yahtzee being at the top of the list. Anyone up for playing Pandemic?
One of our industrious Senior students is building bookshelves out of scrap lumber.
A mom is teaching her 2nd, 4th, and 7th grade boys to cook and bake. Her oldest successfully made a triple layer chocolate cake from scratch. Her boys now have a goal – to be able to make dinner unassisted (about which she smiles and says it would be an absolute dream for her!).
How about playing Horse at the basketball hoop in the driveway?- No hoop? Make your own hoop out of a bucket and Nerfball.
One WA dad shared that elderly neighbors found a Photo Scavenger Hunt online and their boys had a blast finding everything. When they reported back, the neighbors had a surprise reward for them. What a win! – bringing joy to the neighbors and providing fun for the kids.
If you’re looking for a fun activity for your kids, try some of our Whitefield Academy Art-at-Home videos made by our phenomenal art teacher, Matt Appling. All of the projects can be made with things you likely have around your home and are appealing to a wide variety of ages.
