History of Whitefield Academy

The history of Whitefield Academy starts with a small group of local families who founded the institution to be the premier classical Christian school in the Kansas City area in 1995. Our school is named for George Whitefield (pronounced whit-field), one of the most influential preachers in Colonial times. He was a great theological thinker, was a peerless communicator of the truths of Scripture, and demonstrated loving compassion when he opened and funded a school and orphanage in Georgia.

Using the historically validated classical method, we work alongside the natural workings of a child’s mind through three developmental phases: Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric. Additional key components of a Classical education are Music, Athletics and Fine Arts.

Our classical objective is to teach students how to think, rather than what to think. In small classes of 20 or fewer, we educate 240 students in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade.
